The field trip will include the following four stops:
    · Stop 1: Timber Harvest and Slope Stability – We will look at a recent landslide in a recently harvested unit and discuss the effects of timber harvest on slope stability, the effects of landslides on natural resources and public safety, and options for mitigation.
    · Stop 2: Roads and Slope Stability – We will look at a landslide affecting a forest road and discuss the effects of road construction and maintenance on slope stability, characteristics of road-related landslides, and options for avoidance and mitigation.
    · Stop 3: Roads Crossing Debris Flow-Prone Streams – We will look at a road crossing a debris flow-prone stream and discuss the interaction of road crossings and debris flows, evaluating risk to resources downstream, and options for mitigation.
    · Stop 4: Debris Flow Risk Assessments for Public Safety – We will look at the lower reach of a debris flow-prone stream and will discuss how to assess the risk of debris flows impacting roads, homes, and other structures. We will also discuss options for mitigation.
